Skincare Favourites

(that have worked for me)

I have lived with acne and acne scarring since I can remember (maybe about 12 years old). It seems mad to think that in 2023 (10 years later - it is still an issue). I have tried so many different products, cosmetic based, over the counter and prescription, these have helped but I have yet to find the permanent solution. Maybe the reason is, I haven’t made this priority and given it the time, writing this now, perhaps I should. Some days are better than others, but I still think about it every day. over the last years, I have started to wear less make up but this hasn’t effect my skin that much, not as much I thought it might do. Alcohol is another factor but again helps reduce but doesn’t stop. I have just started taking photos of my skin each morning to help track this and keep a food diary to see if I can identify a pattern and really get to know how my body reacts to what food I eat.

Going a little off topic here but these are some products I use everyday that helps keep my skin happy and healthy.

If I had only one product it would be this one. I use this twice a day, morning, and night without fail, great for taking off make up and it never causes spots or irritated my skin. In terms of affordability, I would say this was in the mid-range, a 400ml bottle will last me about 3 months. I know it takes a while to find a product that works for you, I tried so many, but this is a winner for me.

The first time I saw this product was in a Sephora in New York, I was 15 years old and I loved the packaging, typical I know. I don’t remember it being anything special at the time, but I don’t think I used it properly. It wasn’t until about 6 years later did, I buy this again, I think I had seen an ad or something and they were doing this intro offer with a few other products. I thought I would give it another go, and it was amazing, this stuff reduces all spots overnight. It is quite a strong product, but I loved that about it, if it wasn’t reacting quickly then I didn’t think it would work at all, this might not be the best approach when it comes to skin and acne.

Mario Badescu Drying Lotion is an alternative product to the Kate Sommervile, they pretty much have the same ingredients, but is half the price. I only discovered this product recently, so I am trying it out for the first time, will update how I get on.

This is another great product from La Roche-Posay, this hasn’t been as affective as the Kate Sommervile Acne Treatment but it not as harsh. It took a little longer for my blemishes to reduce but it did help, so perhaps someone with sensitive skin this could be a good option. I have never had any issues, irritation, or flare ups, which I sometimes find with some products.

I don’t use cleanser/ toner everyday as I feel this does dry out your skin and I wash my face twice a day without fail so I don’t always feel I need it. I try not to wear face make up every day, but I guess when I do, I use a cleanser after and the morning after to ensure my skin is clean. Again, the same brand but it just works for me.

This product was part of the intro pack, and now it is part of my weekly skincare routine. I only use once or twice a week but it’s very effective. It removes all traces of dead or dirty skin, leaving you so clean and flawless. Warning, you might appear slightly red in some areas, so I suggest using in the evening to let your skin breath and restore overnight - but worth it.

I really enjoyed this product; it didn’t make my skin oily or feel heavy, as I find a lot moisturiser do. I have never been someone to invest in a good moisturiser, I generally use what I can get my hands on when I run out, so this does change. But this one has probably been one of the best and again it’s not crazy expensive as some can be.

I got this in my Selfridges Beauty Advent Calendar and something I used religiously every day. I didn’t replace this though as I had so many other products, I was trying to use them all and I try not to put too much product on the skin. Filled with amino acids and multiple hyaluronic acids, it did leave my skin feeling nourished and hydrated.

I was never someone that was that bothered about eye cream, but I got this product in my Liberty’s beauty calendar, and ever since I have started to take a bit more care of my eyes. Afterall your eyes are the most sensitive. Another suggestion would be Advanced Night Repair Eye Supercharged Gel-Crème.

XOXO
